Minister's Message-March 2022

       Revd Josephine Soon, March 2022

“If one member suffers, all suffer together with it” (1 Cor 12:26). I encourage our members in a special way to dedicate yourself passionately to prayer and fasting for peace in Ukraine and the world. The spiritual disciplines of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving are the powerful spiritual weapons God has given to all the followers of His Son, Jesus Christ. So, pick up the weapon of prayer and physical attendance at Holy Communion service, for those who are able. This is an act of unity with our brothers and sisters who are suffering in our world, especially in Ukraine. So, pick up the weapon of fasting that is an act of solidarity with those who are poor and hunger. Fasting brings us closer to them. Pick up the weapon of almsgiving so you be in One Body with the poorest in our neighbours, both at home, and in Ukraine.

A prayer for these times God, we are angry and frightened. We know you created us for peace, but our world is just so violent... We pray for the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia; for their countries and their leaders. We pray for all those who are angry and afraid that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear. We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness. We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace. We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they are inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ. Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace for Ukraine. And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son. Amen.
